What to do When You Don't Know What to do
So you're going through college still wondering and doubting what you're gonna do with your life. You ask yourself, "Am I on the right track" or "Is this what I can see myself doing for the rest of my life?" Well I have good news and bad news for you. The bad news is I personally don't know what God's will is for your future life, but the good news is I know what He wants you to do in the moments that you are still trying to figure out His will. So stay tuned, and read the devotional below.
1) Do What Lies Nearest
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Ecclesiastes 9:10
This is where many of us fall short. When we don't know what to do, we shut off and stress out about it as if that will make like smoother and easier. But seriously, don't do that. It's not God's will for you to do nothing in the moments where you are uncertain. Instead he wants you to do what lies nearest in your hands. So if you're in college doubting His will, that doesn't mean put off your english essay till the night before in hopes that God will honor your self affliction, and show you His plan in your life. I'm not a prophet but I believe that God wants you to get that paper and all your other assignments done, as you continuously ask Him for his guidance. If it's the Lord's will, then He is responsible for showing you in due time, but you must make sure you're doing your part in giving your current endeavor everything you got.
2) Serve Those Around You
Isaiah chapter 58 is seen as the medical missionary chapter. In this chapter the prophet Isaiah is seen counseling Israel to serve those that are in need, clothe those that are naked, and ease the load off of those who are burdened. But we often forget the blessings that come with this counsel.
If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.
11 The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
Isaiah 58:10-11
When you are constantly serving others, God is better able to guide you in your life. You will find satisfaction and strength for your bones! It's time to get rid of that spiritual osteoporosis. So if you ever find yourself in a situation in which you are anxious in knowing God's will, don't hide from people and have a pity party for yourself. Do the opposite, go to those that are in need and start serving, Revive those that are dying, invest in those that have nobody, converse with those that are lonely. As you serve others, you will find greater satisfaction in life and be able to see God's leading clearer then before. I often hear stories of those that find their calling while serving the Lord, for all I know, that may be the situation for you. So get out of your dorm room, and help a brother or sister in need.
