Better a Cry for Help, then a Half Hearted Hallelujah
I re-learned something valuable this week from some good brothers of mine at the Wei. I learned that vulnerability is something we lack. The reason being is that we have expectations and standards that people have to meet before they are able to talk to us. For example, you should be at point A, your diet should be vegan, and so on and so forth. But honestly, not everyone has it all together, including myself, and that's ok.
Before worrying about the things a person is doing, we should first worry about the individual themselves. Please understand this, I believe it is not right to glorify your infirmities and your brokenness, however I believe it's ok to realize that they are there, and move forward from them with Jesus. But the issue is that we aren't willing to confront our brokenness.
For speech class I heard a good friend of mine give a speech on the topic of "why am I a Christian?" The conclusion ended with the fact that this person is still not completely sure, but is wanting to find out as she continues her journey with Jesus. To me that's probably one of the hardest things to say, and the truth is there are probably many individuals that are still trying to find out the reason why. The heart of the matter is this, I would rather hear your honest uncertainties then to never be able to have a sincere conversation with you because you felt that in order to talk, you have to have reached a certain level in your spirituality.
So I want to leave you with this thought. There are people that don't have it all together, and that's ok. Be willing to meet them where they are and bring them higher each day. And real talk, if you are at the Wei, and you see me walking the loop, you don't only have to say "good morning", you can also say "Josh, can I talk to you about something" instead. Cause the truth is, I believe we all prefer honest heart felt conversations rather than ones that are shallow as a kiddy pool.
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. - Galatians 6:2
“What if God would rather hear a full hearted cry for help, rather then a half-hearted Hallelujah.”
