I Ain't Even Mad
So it's Father's day, and I'm still in Weimar..... mercy, I need to go home. However, I heard a powerful verse the other day and I believe it relates quite well to Fathers day. I am personally blessed to have an amazing dad who is long suffering towards me. I can get salty when things don't go my way but when I'm given my time to re-think things through, I know he'll be waiting ready to forgive me in a heartbeat. But I realized that God is the exact same towards you and I!
Who is a God like You,
Pardoning iniquity
And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage?
He does not retain His anger forever,
Because He delights in mercy.
Micah 7:18
This whole verse is fire but that last statement is quite stupefying (gotta use my GRE words) because we probably struggle with being able to say that in our own behalf. I don't know about you, but I don't delight in mercy. If someone comes to me asking for mercy or forgiveness, I would probably be tempted to say something like "you should've listened bruh," or "fix your life." But here God is shown as delighting in giving you and I mercy.
We often have this false picture of God. We view him as an easily angered God that as soon as you mess up you have to give Him some time off because He needs to cool down. If that is ever how you felt about God's love, I want to assure you that you've been looking at the wrong gospel. God delights to see us come to him even though we have messed up time after time.
Imagine that you're a rebellious child who told your dad that you wish he were dead. If that was not bad enough, you then took the family prius, drove out to LA and decided to live a reckless life filled with self gratification. But you're then broke and realize that the grass is not that green on this side, so you came to your right mind and started on your journey back home. After a long drive, you're right about to pull into your driveway and you ask yourself how's dad going to react when he sees me. But before you finish that thought, he comes out of the house greeting you with a hug that is simply out of love. How great would that be, you didn't even have to knock on the door and pops is already there greeting you, excitedly, because you're home. He can care less about the prius and the money you wasted, your home and that's all that matters.
This analogy can't fully compare to the love that your heavenly father has for you. So maybe you've done a thing or two, or three, or two-hundred and three, don't think that the Lord is done with you. He delights to give you mercy and I believe he is just as happy to see you a mess but coming to him for help, as he is if you were in the front pew of your church. So seriously, come to Him today, no matter what you've done. You don't even have to knock.
