What Am I Worth?
I'm going to write about something that we often hide in the closet. Let's talk self-esteem, and self worth.
I'm a people pleaser, straight and simple. I find value in making people happy and gaining approval of those in whom I come in contact with. When people are happy I'm happy, when they're upset I am pretty bummed. However in life sometimes you just aren't able to make everyone happen at all times and it puts you in this self-esteem dilemma. Some people shake it off as if nothing ever happened, but lets be honest, there's that other group of people that allow this disapproval to bring them down to the very core.
The thing is this, it's natural for us to want to find approval. We desire to be loved and accepted. I don't think that's something very debatable. But this is the issue. If our lack of acceptance changes the way we value ourselves, then we have ourselves a major problem. For example, let's say Bob feels he's not good enough to find acceptance by a certain group of people. He can either allow this to change his value and his self-worth or accept that his value is found in something much more higher.
You see, the issue is not with the people in whom Bob wants to find acceptance in, but rather with himself. He feels that his short comings determine what he's worth. Or maybe he as a person, his traits, his personality, if they don't gain approval, then there's something wrong. But thats not correct, the issue is that he doesn't realise what He's worth in the eyes of God! For all I know maybe there are somethings that Bob needs to work on, but nevertheless he is of an infinite worth before the eyes of his creator.
Dear reader,
If ever you feel that you're not good enough look at Isaiah 43:1, "But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob And He who formed you, O Israel; "fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are mine." God calls you His very own. Not based upon what you can do, or your acceptance in society. He loves you for who you are, with all your weaknesses, and character traits. Though His will is to make you more like him, He loves you through the process. Understand who you are in the eyes of your father, because that is where your value is found. #infinite
